It’s New Jersey, 1985 — a time when hair was big, greed was good, and a wedding singer might just be the coolest person in the room. Robbie Hart, wedding singer extraordinaire, is in high demand. Not only do Robbie and his band members, Sammy and George, cover all of the hits, Robbie has a special knack for making everyone in attendance feel welcome and special, including winsome waitress, Julia. But the wedding he is really looking forward to is his own, to his long-time fiancée, Linda; he is even composing a special song for the day. As Julia helps him with the lyrics, she can’t help but compare Robbie to her own boyfriend, Glen, an arrogant, cheating Wall Street banker.

Robbie and Linda’s big day finally arrives … but the bride doesn’t! Dumped at the altar and shot through the heart, a depressed Robbie makes the next wedding gig a disaster and swears off wedding singing forever. In an attempt to move on with his life, Robbie asks Glen for a job, an action which disgusts Julia who is starting to doubt her relationship with Glen. Robbie’s confusion is intensified by Sammy and George, who try to persuade him of the joys of single life, not to mention the sudden reappearance of Linda, keen to rekindle their relationship. When Glen reveals to Robbie that marrying Julia won’t stop him cheating, Robbie finally realises he must give the performance of his life to win the girl of his dreams.
