LIOR IN CONCERT and SERENDIPITY cancelled Dear Symphony Supporters, The health and safety of our audience members, staff and musicians is top priority. Following the advice from state and federal governments, Willoughby City Council has made the difficult decision to cancel the following Willoughby Symphony concerts: LIOR IN CONCERT on 22 May and SERENDIPITY on 23 and 24 May 2020. It is a decision that we have not taken lightly and it is disappointing for us, our musicians and you, our supporters. Options for ticket holders are: o Replacement of your tickets with a different Willoughby Symphony concert in 2020. o A full refund of your ticket price or a reduction in the number of concerts within your subscription. o Choose to donate your ticket price to the Willoughby Symphony as a tax deductible donation (we will send you a receipt) Please email with your preference from the above options. Please include a daytime contact number in case we need to clarify any details as well as the date of the performance you are attending and your seat numbers. We would love to see you at another performance later this year or for your donation to continue to support the Symphony. Your donation helps bring the beauty and vitality of orchestral music to life and maintains orchestral music’s role as an important part of the cultural fabric of our community. With your support, in 2019 we purchased a contrabassoon and new set of timpani. On behalf of Willoughby City Council, I thank you for your continued support during what is an incredibly challenging time for the arts across Australia. If you have any concerns or need other information, please contact the box office on 02 8075 8111 or

Many thanks for your understanding. Willoughby Symphony Orchestra

Hear some of the best new talent Australian music has to offer in SERENDIPITY as 2018 ABC Young Performer of the Year finalist, clarinettist Oliver Shermacher joins the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra and conductor Dr Sarah Penicka-Smith for the world premiere of a brand new clarinet concerto by Willoughby Symphony Orchestra’s composer-in-residence Alice Chance, specially commissioned by the orchestra. You’ll be treated to the music of one of the country’s newest rising stars, as the winning work from the Willoughby Symphony Young Composer Award is heard for the first time. These young Australian composers are certainly in good company, with neglected master Louise Farrenc’s Overture No.2, Op.24, Claude Debussy’s haunting Première rhapsodie for Clarinet and Orchestra and Brahms’ early triumph, the Serenade No.2, Op.16, completing a program that’s absolutely not to be missed.

Program to include:

Farrenc Overture No.2, Op.24

Debussy Première rhapsodie for Clarinet and Orchestra

Alice Chance Clarinet Concerto [World Premiere]

Willoughby Symphony Young Composer Award [World Premiere]

Brahms Serenade No.2 in A major, Op.16
