This concert was previously advertised as the Verbrugghen Ensemble. The musicians will now perform as the Sydney Soloists.

The members of the Sydney Soloists are well known to Australian and international audiences for their orchestral, solo and ensemble performances. All hold principal performer positions in the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. They are consummate musicians who perform the masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire with passion, intelligence and exhilarating technique.

The ensemble members are Andrew Haveron (violin), Roger Benedict (viola), Umberto Clerici (‘cello), Alex Henery (double bass), Francesco Celata (clarinet), Todd Gibson-Cornish (bassoon) and Robert Johnson (horn).

Their programme revels in the interplay of strings, clarinet, bassoon and horn. The Haydn divertimento is cheerful music that begins gently then develops playfully with increasing demands on the horn player’s virtuosity. Mozart’s clarinet quartet celebrates the lyrical singing voice of the clarinet. Beethoven’s septet is one of the great treasures of chamber music. Composed when he was young, this sparkling innovative septet became Beethoven’s most popular work during his lifetime.

Haydn Divertimento a tre for horn, violin and ‘cello in E-flat, Hob IV:5

Mozart Clarinet quartet in E-flat, K 380/374f

Beethoven Septet for strings and winds in E-flat, op 20

Sydney Mozart Society is a not-for-profit group dedicated to promoting the music of Mozart and other great classical composers and to providing Sydney audiences with world-class performances by leading chamber musicians.
