Council Sets New Benchmark For Local Government With The Concourse

The Concourse since its inception has won a number of key awards for planning, urban development, and architecture.

Government Leadership Award – Philip Chun Award for Government Leadership 2013

Willoughby City Council was awarded the Philip Chun Award for Government Leadership for cultural and entertainment destination, The Concourse in Chatswood – one of the largest and most successful local government projects delivered in Australia over the past decade.  The award was presented at the 2013 Property Council of Australia/Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards. The Awards celebrate innovation and leading practice within Australia’s property development and investment industries, with 107 finalists across 16 categories nationwide.

Government Leadership for Urban Development Award – Austral Bricks Award for Excellence 2012

Willoughby City Council has been awarded the highly coveted Government Leadership for Urban Development Award at the annual Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) Austral Bricks Awards for Excellence, for it’s work in delivering The Concourse.

Following a thorough judging process and facility tour, judges for the reputablr awards selected The Concourse as a category winner for the Government Leadership for Urban Development Award and nominee in four categories: Design and Innovation; Retail/Commercial development; Sustainable Development and Urban Renewal

Judges commented: “The Concourse sets a new benchmark for development by local government. Excellent urban design, stunning architecture, and a myriad of environmental initiatives, this $171 million development includes a library, a concert hall, theatre and inviting public spaces. Restaurants, cafes and shops complete the mix to support the venue, enliven the spaces and provide income.”

NSW Local Government Management Australia Excellence Award – Excellence in Leadership and Innovation-Metropolitan Councils 2012

Excellence in Leadership and Innovation-Metropolitan Councils for the development of The Concourse.

The NSW Planning Institute of Australia Award – Excellence in Large Planning Projects 2011

The Concourse – Plan to Place. The Concourse project has won awards for design, storm water management, sustainability, building construction and planning.

The Awards are held each year on World Town Planning Day to acknowledge significant achievements for Planning in NSW. The Awards recognise innovation, leadership and outstanding performance in the planning profession and emphasise the importance of good planning in the community.
